To clear our minds of attachment to the things of this world and to gain a proper perspective concerning our Eternal Destiny, it is useful to meditate on the truth of the Immortality of the Soul.
The Soul, together with the whole human person, is created to be Eternal.
Together with the Soul and the body, the whole human person will be raised up in the Resurrection.
Why is it impossible for you to conceive of your own non-existence?
Because you will never experience non-existence! Your soul, your self, is created for immortality.
The gift of Life is inescapable. Your very existence is proof of this.
Further, as God is the author of life, indeed, as God is Love and Life,
every moment we are experiencing Life in its directness we are experiencing God.
And we will experience this Life more fully after the death and resurrection of the body.
We have therefore a fundamental choice: For Life, or, for Death.
If we chose for God, we will have Love and Life with God and His Blessed for all Eternity.
If we chose what is not Life, and not Love, that which is not God, we will experience Death for all Eternity. Not sleep, not extinguishment, nor unconsciousness; but dying for all Eternity, carried away from God by our own inclination for all Eternity, cut off for all Eternity from the very breath of Life which we today experience as a free gift from God.
In either state, our souls will not ever cease to exist; the soul is not extinguished.
Therefore Repent of your sins, your attachments to those things that are not Love, not Life, not God. Turn your hearts to God, and the Eternal Life of Love that awaits you!
And, once you have a realization of this Love, this Life of God, do you not wish to bring this Love to all humankind and all God's creatures?
Let the darkness fall from your eyes and behold the light: God reveals Himself most fully through the life, death and Resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. Turn to Him and be saved!
